Gastroenterology

Gastroenterology is the branch of medicine that deals with the digestive system and its disorders. It focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of conditions and diseases that affect the gastrointestinal tract, which includes the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon, rectum, pancreas, gallbladder, and liver.

Gastroenterologists are medical doctors who specialize in this field and are trained to diagnose and manage a wide range of digestive disorders, including acid reflux, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), celiac disease, liver disease, and pancreatic disorders.

Diagnostic tools used in gastroenterology include endoscopy, colonoscopy, imaging studies such as CT scans and MRIs, and laboratory tests such as stool analysis and blood work.
